The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
I swear by the star when it goes down. 1 your comrade is not astray, neither errs, 2 nor does he speak out of desire. 3 It is but a divine revelation, which is revealed to him. 4 He was taught by one Mighty in Power, 5 The Lord of Strength; so he attained completion, 6 When he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he drew near and drew closer 8 until he was but two bow-lengths away, or even nearer. 9 then revealed to his servant that he revealed. 10 The heart [of the Prophet] did not misconstrue what he saw. 11 What! do you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 For indeed he saw him at a second descent, 13 At the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary - 14 near unto the garden of promise. 15 when the lote tree was covered in mystic splendour. 16 The sight turned not aside, nor it exceeded. 17 Verily he saw one of the greater revelations of his Lord. 18 (Among the idols) have you considered allat and al'uzza, 19 and Manat the third, the other? 20 Are there sons for you, and daughters for Him? 21 That indeed were an unfair division! 22 They are nothing but some names that you have coined, you and your forefathers – Allah has not sent any proof for them; they follow only guesses and their own desires; whereas the guidance from their Lord has come to them. 23 Nay, shall man have (just) anything he hankers after? 24 Allah's is the last and the first. 25
