The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the sun and its heat and brightness, 1 And the moon when it follows the sun, 2 And the day when it shows it, 3 By the night when it envelopeth it, 4 By the heaven and Him Who builded it, 5 The earth and its spreading out, 6 by the soul and how He formed it, 7 and imbued it with (the consciousness of) its evil and its piety: 8 Indeed he succeeds who purifies his ownself (i.e. obeys and performs all that Allah ordered, by following the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism and by doing righteous good deeds). 9 and he who corrupts it is sure to fail. 10 The tribe of Thamud denied with rebellion. 11 When the most unfortunate of them broke forth with 12 then the Messenger of God said to them, 'The She-camel of God; let her drink!' 13 But they denied him and hamstrung her. So their Lord brought down upon them destruction for their sin and made it equal [upon all of them]. 14 And He fears not its consequence. 15
