Said Firaun to the court members around him, “He is indeed an expert magician.” 34 "He wants to drive you out of your land by his sorcery, then what is it your counsel, and what do you command?" 35 They said: Give him and his brother respite and send heralds into the cities 36 who shall assemble before thee all sorcerers of great knowledge" 37 So the magicians were gathered together at the appointed time on the fixed day, 38 And the people were told: "Are ye (now) assembled?- 39 That we might follow the magicians if they are the predominant?" 40 Then, when the sorcerers came, they said to Pharaoh, 'Shall we indeed have a wage, if we should be the victors?' 41 "Yes," he replied. "You 'will be among the honoured." 42 Moses said unto them: Throw what ye are going to throw! 43 So they cast their ropes and their staffs, and said, 'By the might of Pharaoh we shall be the victors.' 44 Then Moses cast his staff and lo, it forthwith swallowed up their lying invention; 45 Then the magicians flung themselves prostrate. 46 They said: we believe in the Lord of the worlds. 47 the Lord of Moses and Aaron." 48 Said [Pharaoh]: "Have you come to believe in him ere I have given you permission? Verily, he must be your master who has taught you magic! But in time you shall come to know [my revenge]: most certainly shall I cut off your hands and your feet in great numbers, because of [your] perverseness, and shall most certainly crucify you in great numbers, all together!" 49 They said: "We do not care, for we are bound to return to our Lord, 50 Lo! we ardently hope that our Lord will forgive us our sins because we are the first of the believers. 51
