they have only to wait for one single blast [of punishment]: it shall not be delayed by one whit. 15 And they say: O our Lord! hasten on to us our portion before the day of reckoning. 16 Bear patiently with what they say, and remember Our worshiper David, a man of might. He was ever turning in repentance. 17 Lo! We subdued the hills to hymn the praises (of their Lord) with him at nightfall and sunrise, 18 And birds gathered together; they were all obedient to him. 19 We strengthened his kingdom, giving him wisdom and the power of sound Judgment. 20 ۞ And has there come to you the news of the adversaries, when they climbed over the wall of [his] prayer chamber - 21 and entered where David was (praying). He was frightened, so they said, "Do not be afraid. We are only two disputing parties of which one of us has transgressed against the other. Judge between us with truth and justice and guide us to the right path". 22 Verily, this my brother (in religion) has ninety nine ewes, while I have (only) one ewe, and he says: "Hand it over to me, and he overpowered me in speech." 23 Said Dawud, “He is indeed being unjust to you in that he demands to add your ewe to his ewes; and indeed most partners wrong one another, except those who believe and do good deeds – and they are very few!” Thereupon Dawud realised that We had tested him, so he sought forgiveness from his Lord, and fell prostrate and inclined (towards his Lord). (Command of Prostration # 10) ۩ 24 So, We forgave him that, and he has a near place with Us and a fine return. 25 o Dawood! surely We have made you a ruler in the land; so judge between men with justice and do not follow desire, lest it should lead you astray from the path of Allah; (as for) those who go astray from the path of Allah, they shall surely have a severe punishment because they forgot the day of reckoning. 26
