The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the heavens are rent asunder 1 And listens and obeys its Lord, and it must do so; 2 And when the earth is stretched, 3 And has cast out that within it and relinquished [it] 4 obeying its Sustainer, as in truth it must: 5 O man, you have to strive and go on striving towards your Lord, then will you meet Him. 6 So whoever is given his record of deeds in his right hand – 7 he will in time be called to account with an easy accounting, 8 And he shall return unto his people joyfully. 9 But as for those whose Book of records will be given behind their backs, 10 Will pray for death, 11 And will go into the blazing fire. 12 He once lived among his family joyfully; 13 and had thought that they would never be brought back to life again. 14 Surely yes, why not? Indeed his Lord is seeing him. 15 No! I swear by the twilight 16 by the night and what it covers, 17 And the Moon in her fullness: 18 That you will climb from stage to stage. 19 So, wherefore do they not believe? 20 And when the Qur'an is recited to them do not bow in adoration? ۩ 21 Nay, but they who are bent on denying the truth give the lie [to this divine writ]! 22 Whereas Allah knoweth best that which they cherish. 23 Therefore give them the glad tidings of a painful punishment. 24 Except to those who believe and work righteous deeds: For them is a Reward that will never fail. 25
