The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra. THESE ARE MESSAGES of revelation - of a discourse clear in itself and clearly showing the truth. 1 Soon will the time come when the unbelievers will wish they were Muslims. 2 Leave them alone, to enjoy (the good things of this life) and to please themselves: let (false) hope amuse them: soon will knowledge (undeceive them). 3 And never did We destroy a township but there was a known decree for it. 4 No nation can anticipate its term, nor delay it. 5 And they say: O thou unto whom the Reminder is revealed, lo! thou art indeed a madman! 6 Why do you not bring down the angels, if what you say is true' 7 We send not the angels down save with judgment, and then they would not be respited. 8 We Ourselves have revealed the Quran and We are its Protectors. 9 We had also sent apostles to people of earlier persuasions. 10 And never came a Messenger to them but they did mock him. 11 Thus do We make it traverse the hearts of the guilty: 12 They do not believe in it even though the practice of the ancients has already gone. 13 If We were even to open for them a way to the heavens, and they could continually climb up to it in broad daylight, 14 They would certainly say: Only our eyes have been covered over, rather we are an enchanted people. 15
