The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the setting star, 1 your companion is not in error nor has he gone astray. 2 nor does he speak out of his own desire. 3 It is only an Inspiration that is inspired. 4 Taught to him by one intense in strength - 5 Endued with Wisdom: for he appeared (in stately form); 6 And he is in the highest part of the horizon. 7 then he drew near, and became close 8 And was at a distance of two bows' length or (even) nearer, 9 So Allah divinely revealed to His bondman, whatever He divinely revealed. 10 His heart lies not of what he saw; 11 Will you dispute with him what he saw? 12 And assuredly he saw him at another descent. 13 to the Lot-tree (in the seven heavens) 14 near which is the Garden of Abode. 15 When the lote-tree was being enveloped, by whatever around it. 16 The sight did not shift, nor did it cross the limits. 17 He certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 HAVE YOU, then, ever considered [what you are worshipping in] Al-Lat and Al-Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third, the last? 20 Is the male for you and for Him the female? 21 That indeed were an unfair division! 22 They are naught but names yourselves have named, and your fathers; God has sent down no authority touching them. They follow only surmise, and what the souls desire; and yet guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Does man imagine that it is his due to have all that he might wish for, 24 Nay! for Allah is the hereafter and the former (life). 25
