A (goodly) number from those of old, 39 and a multitude of the later people. 40 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 41 In scorching wind and boiling hot water. 42 And in the shadow of a burning smoke. 43 Neither cool nor honorable. 44 They were endowed with good things 45 And they have been persisting in the heinous offence. 46 and constantly said: 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we then be restored to life? 47 Will our ancient forefathers be resurrected too? 48 Say (O Muhammad SAW): "(Yes) verily, those of old, and those of later times. 49 shall be gathered together to the appointed time on a known Day' 50 Then you, the erring and the deniers, 51 Most surely eat of a tree of Zaqqoom, 52 You shall fill your bellies with it, 53 And drink over it scalding water, 54 You shall drink it as the thirsty camels drink." 55 This will be their welcome on the Day of Judgment. 56 We have created you, then why would you not confirm it? 57 Have you considered the seed you spill? 58 Did you create it, or are We the Creator? 59 It is We Who ordained death upon you and We are not to be frustrated. 60 In that We will change your likenesses and produce you in that [form] which you do not know. 61 You have known the first creation, then why do you not reflect? 62 Behold! that which ye sow. 63 Is it ye who foster it, or are We the Fosterer? 64 Did We will, We would make it broken orts, and you would remain bitterly jesting -- 65 Surely we are burdened with debt: 66 Aye! we are deprived! 67 See ye the water which ye drink? 68 Is it you who brought it down from the clouds or is it We Who brought it down? 69 If We had so pleased, We could have made it bitter. So why would you not give thanks? 70 Have you thought about the fire you kindle? 71 Was it ye who made the tree thereof to grow, or were We the grower? 72 We have made it a Reminder (for the Hell-fire, in the Hereafter); and an article of use for the travellers (and all the others, in this world). 73 So exalt the name of your Lord, the Most Great. 74
