Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]? 1 On that Day, there shall be downcast faces, 2 Laboring, toiling, 3 they shall burn in a Scorching Fire; 4 Given to drink of a spring fiercely boiling. 5 They will have no food except bitter thorn, 6 which gives no strength and neither stills hunger. 7 In that day other faces will be calm, 8 with their striving well-pleased, 9 In a high Garden. 10 Where they shall neither hear harmful speech nor falsehood, 11 Countless springs will flow therein, 12 raised couches, 13 And goblets ready placed! 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 and carpets spread out. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 and on the sky, how it is raised aloft, 18 And at the mountains, how firmly they are reared? 19 And the earth, how it is spread? 20 Admonish thou then; thou art but an admonisher. 21 You are not at all a guardian over them. 22 But whoever will turn away (from the Truth), 23 So Allah will mete out to him the greatest punishment. 24 for behold, unto Us will be their return, 25 Then surely upon Us is the taking of their account. 26
