The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
The hour drew nigh and the moon did rend asunder. 1 And when they see a sign, they turn away and say, “Just a customary magic!” 2 They reject (the warning) and follow their (own) lusts but every matter has its appointed time. 3 Tidings containing a deterrent have come to them 4 far-reaching wisdom [was held out to them]: but [since] all warnings have been of no avail, 5 So turn (your) back on them (for) the day when the inviter shall invite them to a hard task, 6 abasing their eyes, they shall come forth from the tombs as if they were scattered grasshoppers, 7 They will hasten forward to the caller, gazes fixed. And the unbelievers will say: "This is the day of untold woe." 8 ۞ [LONG] BEFORE those [who now deny resurrection] did Noah's people call it a lie; and they gave the lie to Our servant and said, "Mad is he!" - and he was repulsed. 9 Thereupon he called out to his Sustainer, "Verily, I am defeated; come Thou, then, to my succour!" 10 Then We opened the portals of heaven with water poured out. 11 And caused the earth to burst with springs, and the waters met for a matter already predestined. 12 But We bore him on an (Ark) made of broad planks and caulked with palm-fibre: 13 Sailing under Our observation as reward for he who had been denied. 14 We made (the story of Noah) as evidence of the Truth. However, is there anyone who would take heed? 15 How then were My chastisement and My warnings? 16 And We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition? 17 Ad cried lies. How then were My chastisement and My warnings? 18 We sent a raging wind against them on a day of continuous calamity. 19 It swept people away as if they were trunks of uprooted palm trees. 20 So how awesome were My chastisement and My warnings! 21 And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth? 22
