The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
A questioner asked of a chastisement about to fall 1 The infidels, of which there is no averter. 2 From Allah, the Lord of all pinnacles. 3 To Him the angels and the Spirit (Gabriel) ascend in a day, the measure of which is fifty thousand years. 4 So persevere with becoming patience. 5 They deem it to be remote. 6 while We think that it is near at hand. 7 [It will take place] on a Day when the sky will be like molten lead, 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 And no friend will ask after a friend, 10 They will be seeing them; the guilty will wish if only he could redeem himself from the punishment of that day, by offering his sons. 11 and his spouse and his brother, 12 and his kinsfolk who had stood by him, 13 and all those on earth. 14 By no means! For the raging flames of the fire 15 That would skin the scalp. 16 It shall claim him who turned and fled (from truth), 17 And accumulated wealth and hoarded it. 18 ۞ Surely man is created of a hasty temperament 19 When they are afflicted, they complain, 20 And refraining, when good reaches him. 21 except those that pray, 22 and continue at their prayers, 23 who, from their wealth is a known right 24 for the needy and the deprived, 25 who confirm the Day of Reckoning 26 and who stand in dread of their Sustainer's chastisement 27 Indeed, the punishment of their Lord is not that from which one is safe - 28 those who preserve their chastity 29 save from their wives and what their right hands own, then not being blameworthy 30 But whosoever seeks beyond that, they are the transgressors. 31 And those who are to their trusts and promises attentive 32 And those who are in their testimonies upright 33 and who observe their prayers. 34 They will be in gardens, honored. 35
