He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 you attended to him, 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And he fears, 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 to yield therein corn, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 Olives and dates, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 laughing and joyous 39 but others will be gloomy 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
