Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Has the story reached thee of the overwhelming (Event)? 1 On that day (many) faces will be downcast, 2 Toiling, weary, 3 They shall roast into the scalding Fire, 4 watered at a boiling fountain, 5 No food for them save bitter thorn-fruit 6 that will neither nourish nor satisfy their hunger. 7 Many faces will be joyous on that day, 8 with their striving well-pleased, 9 They shall be in a Garden lofty: 10 wherein they will not hear any vain talk. 11 Therein shall be a spring running! 12 Therein will be Thrones (of dignity), raised on high, 13 and goblets set at hand, 14 well-placed cushions, 15 and carpets spread out. 16 Have they not looked at how the camel is created, 17 And the heaven, how it is raised? 18 how the mountains were hoisted, 19 and on the earth, how it is spread out? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 thou art not charged to oversee them. 22 But if any turn away and reject Allah,- 23 him will God cause to suffer the greatest suffering [in the life to come]: 24 for behold, unto Us will be their return, 25 Then it will be for Us to call them to account. 26
