۞ “Gather all the unjust persons and their spouses, and all that they used to worship!” – 22 instead of God, and lead them all onto the way to the blazing fire, 23 and stop them there for questioning: 24 "What is the matter with you that you do not help each other?" 25 Nay, but that day they shall submit (to Judgment); 26 but [since it will be too late,] they will turn upon one another, demanding of each other [to relieve them of the burden of their past sins]. 27 They said, “It is you who used to come to us from our right, in order to sway.” 28 [To which] the others will reply: "Nay, you yourselves were bereft of all faith! 29 We had no power over you. You were a rebellious people, 30 Now the Word of our Lord hath been fulfilled concerning us. Lo! we are about to taste (the doom). 31 "So we led you astray because we were ourselves astray." 32 Then verily, that Day, they will (all) share in the torment. 33 Surely thus do We deal with the guilty. 34 For they, when they were told that there is no god except Allah, would puff themselves up with Pride, 35 And say: "What! shall we give up our gods for the sake of a Poet possessed?" 36 Aye! he hath come with the truth, and he confesseth to the sent ones. 37 Verily ye are going to taste a torment afflictive. 38 And you will not be recompensed except for what you used to do - 39 But for the sincere worshipers of Allah, 40 will have their determined sustenance 41 fruits -- and they high-honoured 42 in the Gardens of Bliss, 43 They will be seated upon couches set face to face; 44 a cup filled with wine from its springs, will be passed around to them; 45 white, sparkling (wine), a delight to the drinkers. 46 There shall be no trouble in it, nor shall they be exhausted therewith. 47 Theirs shall be wide-eyed maidens with bashful, restrained glances, 48 so delicate as the hidden peel under an egg's shell. 49 And they will all turn to one another, asking each other [about their past lives]. 50 One of them will say, "I had a companion who asked me, 51 who would say, "Are you a confirmer? 52 "'When we die and become dust and bones, shall we indeed receive rewards and punishments?'" 53 And he will reply: 'Are you looking down (into Hell)' 54 And he will look and see him in the midst of the Hellfire. 55 He said: "By Allah! You have nearly ruined me. 56 But for my Lord's blessing, I were one of the arraigned. 57 Is it then that we are not going to die, 58 Except for our first death, and we will not be punished?" 59 Indeed, this is the great attainment. 60 For the like of this, then, let the workers work. 61 Is this better as an entertainment or the tree of Zaqqum? 62 Surely We have made it to be a trial to the unjust. 63 Indeed it is a tree that sprouts from the base of hell. 64 and its fruits are like devils' heads. 65 They will eat and fill their bellies with it, 66 On top of it they shall have a brew of boiling water, 67 then their return is to Hell. 68 These are the ones who found their fathers steeped in error, 69 So they hastily follow their footsteps! 70 And indeed most of the men of old went astray before them; 71 And We had sent admonishers to them. 72 Observe, then, what was the end of those that had been warned, 73 except for the chosen servants of Allah? 74
