S (Saad)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Sad [These letters (Sad etc.) are one of the miracles of the Quran and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. By the Quran full of reminding. 1 nay, but the unbelievers glory in their schism. 2 How many generations have We destroyed before them. They called: 'The time is neither of escape, nor safety' 3 Now these [people] deem it strange that a warner should have come unto them from their own midst - and [so] the deniers of the truth are saying: "A [mere] spellbinder is he, a liar! 4 "Has he made the gods (all) into one Allah? Truly this is a wonderful thing!" 5 A group of the pagans walked out of a meeting with the Prophet and told the others, "Let us walk away. Be steadfast in the worship of your gods. This man wants to dominate you. 6 We have not heard this in the religious community close to our time. This is nothing but a fabrication. 7 "What! has the Message been sent to him - (Of all persons) among us?"... but they are in doubt concerning My (Own) Message! Nay, they have not yet tasted My Punishment! 8 Or have they the treasuries of thy Lord's mercy, the All-mighty, the All-giving? 9 Or, is theirs the Kingdom of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them? Then let them ascend by (their) means! 10 A host of deserters of the allies shall be here put to flight. 11 To the truth gave the lie aforetime Noah's people, and [the tribe of] Ad, and Pharaoh of the [many] tent-poles, 12 So also did the people of Thamud, Lot, and the dwellers of the Forest. 13 Each of them gave the lie to Messengers and My decree of chastisement came upon them. 14
