Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O thou enwrapped! 1 Keep watch all the night except some, 2 A half of it or a little less 3 Or add to it, and recite the Qur'an with measured recitation. 4 We are about to cast upon you a weighty Word. 5 Indeed, the hours of the night are more effective for concurrence [of heart and tongue] and more suitable for words. 6 Indeed you have a lot of matters during the day. 7 So remember the name of thy Lord and devote thyself with a complete devotion - 8 (He is) Lord of the East and the West: there is no god but He: take Him therefore for (thy) Disposer of Affairs. 9 Bear patiently with what they say, and ignore them politely. 10 Leave the prosperous disbelievers to Me and give them respite for a little while; 11 With Us are Fetters (to bind them), and a Fire (to burn them), 12 And a food that chokes, and a painful torment. 13 On the day the earth and mountains will rock violently, and the mountains turn to a heap of poured-out sand. 14 We have sent to you, (O men!) a messenger, to be a witness concerning you, even as We sent a messenger to Pharaoh. 15 Pharaoh disobeyed Our Messenger, so We seized him remorselessly. 16 How then, if ye disbelieve, shall ye escape, on a Day which shall make children grey-headed? 17 The heaven will split asunder with its grief; the promise of Allah will surely occur. 18 Verily this is an Admonition: therefore, whoso will, let him take a (straight) path to his Lord! 19
