He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 So you are after him! 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 From him you are distracted. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 exalted and purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 And olives and palms 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
