The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
When the sun is wrapped up [in darkness] 1 And when the stars darken, 2 and when the mountains are made to vanish, 3 the young barren camels are abandoned, 4 The wild beasts stampede on the run, 5 And when the seas shall be filled, 6 and when all human beings are coupled [with their deeds,] 7 and when the girl-child buried alive shall be asked: 8 for what crime she was slain, 9 when the records of men's deeds are laid open, 10 and when heaven is laid bare, 11 And when hell is further enflamed. 12 And when the garden is brought nigh, 13 then every soul will discover the consequence of its deeds. 14 Oh, but I call to witness the planets, 15 the runners, the sinkers, 16 And by the night as it departs; 17 by the dawn sighing, 18 Truly, this is the word brought by a noble messenger, 19 one mighty and held in honour with the Lord of the Throne; 20 One (to be) obeyed, and faithful in trust. 21 Your companion is not possessed; 22 And he has already seen Gabriel in the clear horizon. 23 And he is of the unseen not a tenacious concealer. 24 And the Qur’an is not the recitation of Satan the outcast. 25 So where are you going? 26 That is but an advice to the entire creation! 27 For those of you who desire to walk the path that is straight, 28 Though you cannot desire except as God will, the Lord of all the worlds. 29
