[AND the tribe of] Ad gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 123 When their brother Hud said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 124 Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger. 125 So fear Allah and obey me. 126 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 127 “What! You build a structure on every height, to laugh at the passers-by?” 128 and do you take to you castles, haply to dwell forever? 129 "And when ye exert your strong hand, do ye do it like men of absolute power? 130 Have fear of God and obey me. 131 fear Him who has aided you with all that you know -- 132 He has bestowed on you cattle, and sons, 133 "And gardens and springs. 134 'Indeed, I fear for you the chastisement of a dreadful day.' 135 They said: "It is the same to us whether you preach or be not of those who preach. 136 This is just a habit of antiquated people. 137 “And we will not be punished.” 138 In response they denied him – We therefore destroyed them; indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 139 Surely, your Lord is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 140
