The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 there is no denying its coming 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 and the mountains are shattered into [countless] shards, 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 And ye are classes three. 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 The foremost ones (in faith and virtue) - the foremost ones in receiving their reward. 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 They will dwell in the Gardens of Bliss: 12 A multitude of those of old 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 (They will be) on thrones woven with gold and precious stones, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 They will be served by immortal boys, 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 No headache will they have therefrom, nor will they be intoxicated - 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells. 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 All talk will be sound and upright. 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 and serried acacias, 29 and spreading shade 30 And in perpetually flowing water. 31 And fruit in plenty 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 And raised couches; 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 And made them virginal, 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
