The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Arise and warn, 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 and purify your clothing, 4 And all abomination shun! 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 So when the Trumpet will be blown. 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)! 11 and to whom I have granted resources vast, 12 And children to be by his side! 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 Then he looked around, 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 said, "This (the Quran) is nothing but magic, inherited from ancient magicians. 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
