Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Certainly the news of the calamity that will overwhelm has come to you! 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated, 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 they shall burn in a Scorching Fire; 4 their drink shall be from a boiling spring. 5 They shall have no food except bitter dry thorns 6 Which will neither fatten nor avail against hunger. 7 Faces on that day jocund, 8 Well-pleased with their endeavour, 9 In a Garden on high, 10 hearing there no babble; 11 In it is a flowing spring. 12 In which are high thrones. 13 And cups put in place 14 And arranged carpets. 15 and carpets spread out. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 how the heavens are raised up high, 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted? 19 And at the earth - how it is spread out? 20 Admonish thou then; thou art but an admonisher. 21 and are not invested with the authority to compel them. 22 But he who turns his back, and disbelieves, 23 him will God cause to suffer the greatest suffering [in the life to come]: 24 Certainly, it is to Us that they will return. 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
