Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ NAY! I call to witness this land 1 – this city wherein you have been rendered violable– 2 And (the mystic ties of) parent and child;- 3 That We created man in toil and trouble. 4 Does he think that no one has power over him? 5 (He boasts and shows off) saying, "I have spent a great deal of money (for the cause of God)". 6 Thinketh he that none beholdeth him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes? 8 And a tongue, and a pair of lips?- 9 And have shown him the two ways? 10 But he did not venture to scale the difficult steep. 11 Would that you knew what Aqaba is! 12 It is the freeing of a slave; 13 or giving food upon a day of hunger 14 an orphaned relative 15 Or of a homeless needy person! 16 Then will he be of those who believe, and enjoin patience, (constancy, and self-restraint), and enjoin deeds of kindness and compassion. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 But those who reject Our Signs, they are the (unhappy) Companions of the Left Hand. 19 Over them shall be Fire closing round. 20
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
