The 'Ad (people) rejected the messengers. 123 Their brother Hud asked them, "Why do you not have fear of God? 124 Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger. 125 "So fear Allah and obey me. 126 "No reward do I ask of you for it (my Message of Islamic Monotheism), my reward is only from the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns, and all that exists). 127 You construct monuments on every hill in vain, 128 "And do ye get for yourselves fine buildings in the hope of living therein (for ever)? 129 And will you [always,] whenever you lay hand [on others,] lay hand [on them] cruelly, without any restraint? 130 Rather keep your duty to Allah, and obey me. 131 "Yea, fear Him Who has bestowed on you freely all that ye know. 132 "Freely has He bestowed on you cattle and sons,- 133 and gardens, and springs: 134 I am afraid that you will suffer the torment of the Day of Judgment." 135 They replied: "It is all the same for us whether you admonish us or not. 136 your preaching is nothing but ancient legends and we shall not face any torment". 137 We will not be subjected to any chastisement." 138 And they denied him; therefor We destroyed them. Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers. 139 And lo! thy Lord, He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
