Therefore (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him), enlighten, for by the munificence of your Lord, you are neither a soothsayer nor a madman. 29 Or say they: a poet for whom we wait some adverse turn of fortune! 30 Tell them: "Keep on expecting, I am expecting with you." 31 Enjoin them their understandings to this? or are they a people conumacious? 32 Or do they say, 'He has invented it?' Nay, but they do not believe. 33 Then let them produce speech the like thereof, if they are truthful. 34 Or, were they created out of nothing? Or, were they their own creators? 35 Did they create the heavens and the earth? No! They have no faith. 36 Or are with them the treasures of your Lord? Or are they the tyrants with the authority to do as they like? 37 Or do they have a ladder (climbing which) they can hear (the secrets of heaven)? Let one who has heard then bring a clear proof. 38 Or does Allah have daughters whereas you have sons? 39 Do you (Muhammad) ask them for any payment (for your preaching) which they cannot afford? 40 Or, is the Unseen in their keeping, so they are writing it down? 41 Or seek they to ensnare (the messenger)? But those who disbelieve, they are the ensnared! 42 Or have they a god other than Allah? Glory be to Allah from what they set up (with Him). 43 AND YET, if they [who refuse to see the truth] were to see part of the sky falling down, they would [only] say: "[It is but] a mass of clouds!" 44 So leave them alone until they encounter that Day of theirs, wherein they shall (perforce) swoon (with terror),- 45 when their stratagem shall be of no avail to them, nor shall they be succoured. 46 And there surely awaits the evildoers a chastisement beyond even that, but most of them know it not. 47 And wait patiently for the judgment of your Lord, for surely you are before Our eyes, and sing the praise of your Lord when you rise; 48 And proclaim His Purity during the night, and when the stars turn back. 49
