He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 And he fears, 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and purified. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Dust shall cover them 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
