The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
A supplicant asked for a punishment bound to happen 1 to those who deny the truth. No power can hinder God 2 from punishing them. He is the Lord of the Ascending Stairways, 3 by which the angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him in one Day which will last for fifty thousand years. 4 Wherefore be thou patient with a becoming patience. 5 Verily! They see it (the torment) afar off, 6 And We behold it nigh. 7 On the day when the heavens become like molten metal. 8 And the hills will be light as wool. 9 And no friend will ask of a friend, 10 Though they will be put in sight of each other,- the sinner's desire will be: Would that he could redeem himself from the Penalty of that Day by (sacrificing) his children, 11 his companion (wife), his brother, 12 And his family who had stood by him, 13 and all those on earth. 14 No! Indeed, it is the Flame [of Hell], 15 That would skin the scalp. 16 It calls out to him who reverted and turned away. 17 And collected [wealth] and hoarded. 18 ۞ Indeed, the human was created grudging and impatient. 19 If evil befalls him he is perturbed; 20 And when good toucheth him he is begrudging. 21 But not so the worshippers 22 Those who remain steadfast to their prayer; 23 who, from their wealth is a known right 24 for those that ask and those that are dispossessed, 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgment, 26 and are fearful of the punishment of their Lord; 27 for, behold, of their Sustainer's chastisement none may ever feel [wholly] secure; 28 And those who guard their private parts, 29 Except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they are not to be blamed - 30 But those who seek more than this will be transgressors; 31 And those who are faithful to their trusts and their covenant 32 And those who are in their testimonies upright 33 and are steadfast in their prayers. 34 Such will be the honoured ones in the Gardens (of Bliss). 35
