The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
36 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Spider (Al-Ankaboot) before The Heifer (Al-Baqarah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Woe unto the defrauders: 1 who, when people measure for them, take full measure, 2 But if they give by measure or by weight to them, they cause loss. 3 Do they not realise that they will be raised to life 4 For a tremendous Day - 5 The Day when mankind will stand before the Lord of the Universe? 6 Nay, but the record of the vile is in Sijjin - 7 And what will explain to thee what Sijjin is? 8 it is a written record. 9 Woe, then, to those that give the lie, 10 Those who belie the Day of Requital. 11 And none deny it except every sinful transgressor. 12 When Our revelations are conveyed to him, he says, "Fables of the ancients!" 13 By no means! Aye! encrusted upon their hearts is that which they have been earning. 14 No indeed; but upon that day they shall be veiled from their Lord, 15 Further, they will enter the Fire of Hell. 16 Then, it will be said to them: "This is what you used to deny!" 17 Surely the ledger of the pious will be in 'Illiyun (heights above the heights). 18 Would that you knew what Illiyin is! 19 It is a written book, 20 To which bear witness those brought nigh. 21 Verily the pious will be in heaven, 22 [resting on couches, they will look up [to God]: 23 You will recognize in their faces the brightness of bliss. 24 They will be given to drink pure sealed wine. 25 The last of it is musk. So for this let the competitors compete. 26 And admixture thereof will be Water of Tasnim: 27 A spring, from (the waters) whereof drink those Nearest to Allah. 28 Lo! the guilty used to laugh at those who believed, 29 when them passed them by winking at one another, 30 and when they returned to their own people, they would speak of them jestingly; 31 and when they saw the believers, they said: “Lo! These are the erring ones”; 32 And withal, they have no call to watch over [the beliefs of] others... 33 But today the believers are laughing at the unbelievers; 34 seated upon their couches, they are looking around. 35 Have the unbelievers been rewarded what they were doing? 36
