The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the sun and its noon-time brightness, 1 And the moon when she followeth him, 2 Consider the day as it reveals the world, 3 And [by] the night when it covers it 4 By the heaven and Who built it, 5 By the Earth and its (wide) expanse: 6 And the soul and Him Who made it perfect, 7 then inspired it to understand what was right and wrong for it. 8 He is indeed successful who causeth it to grow, 9 and he who corrupts it is sure to fail. 10 The tribe of Thamud denied with rebellion. 11 when that most hapless wretch from among them rushed forward [to commit his evil deed,] 12 then the Messenger of God said to them, 'The She-camel of God; let her drink!' 13 But they rejected his statement as a lie and hamstrung the she-camel. For that crime their Lord rumbled down upon them, utterly razing them to the ground. 14 And He feared not the consequence thereof 15
