Truly it is the revelation of the Lord of all Being, 192 trustworthy divine inspiration has alighted with it from on high 193 into your heart, so that you may be a warner, 194 In eloquent Arabic. 195 And lo! it is in the Scriptures of the men of old. 196 Is it not a token for them that the doctors of the Children of Israel know it? 197 Had We revealed it to any one of the non-Arabs, 198 and he had recited it to them, they would not have believed in it. 199 Thus have We caused it (the denial of the Quran) to enter the hearts of the Mujrimun (criminals, polytheists, sinners, etc.). 200 They will not believe in it until they clearly see the grievous chastisement. 201 so that it will come upon them suddenly, while they are not aware, 202 Then will they say: "Can we be given respite?" 203 What, do they seek to hasten Our chastisement? 204 Therefore observe, that if We give them some comforts for some years, – 205 and then what they were promised comes to them, 206 All that with which they used to enjoy shall not avail them. 207 And We destroyed not a city but it had its warners. 208 To remind, and We are never unjust. 209 The devils did not bring it down: 210 they are not supposed to do so. Nor do have they the ability for such a task. 211 Verily, they have been removed far from hearing it. 212 Therefor invoke not with Allah another god, lest thou be one of the doomed. 213 And warn, [O Muhammad], your closest kindred. 214 Lower thy wing to those who follow thee, being believers; 215 But if they disobey you, then say: Surely I am clear of what you do. 216 Put your trust in the Mighty One, the Merciful, 217 Who observes you when you rise (to pray) 218 And watches your movements among those who prostrate in prayer. 219 Surely He is the Hearing, the Knowing. 220 Shall I inform you upon whom the devils descend? 221 They descend upon every lying, sinful one, 222 (Into whose ears) they pour hearsay vanities, and most of them are liars. 223 And as to the poets, those who go astray follow them. 224 Hast thou not seen how they stray in every valley, 225 and that they [so often] say what they do not do [or feel]? 226 Save those who believed and worked righteous works and remembered Allah much, and vindicated themselves after they had been wronged. And anon those who do wrong shall come to know with what a translating they shall be translated. 227
