The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
The Hour hath drawn nigh, and the moon hath been rent in sunder. 1 And if they see a miracle they turn aside and say: Transient magic. 2 for they are bent on giving it the lie, being always wont to follow their own desires. Yet everything reveals its truth in the end. 3 Surely there came to them narratives (of the ancient nations) that should suffice to deter (them from transgression), 4 Containing consummate wisdom; yet warnings were of no avail. 5 Wherefore withdrew thou from them. The Day whereon the summoner will summon mankind unto a thing unpleasant. 6 abasing their eyes, they shall come forth from the tombs as if they were scattered grasshoppers, 7 Hastening to the inviter. The unbelievers shall say: This is a hard day. 8 ۞ [LONG] BEFORE those [who now deny resurrection] did Noah's people call it a lie; and they gave the lie to Our servant and said, "Mad is he!" - and he was repulsed. 9 Thereupon he prayed unto his Lord: verily am overcome, so vindicate me. 10 We opened the gates of the sky and water started to pour down. 11 and caused the earth to gush with springs, so that the waters met for a predestined matter. 12 And We carried Nooh upon a ship of wooden planks and nails. 13 Sailing in front of Our sight; as a reward for the sake of one who was rejected. 14 We have left this as a sign: but will anyone take heed? 15 Then how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 16 We have made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would pay attention? 17 (The tribe of) A'ad rejected warnings. Then how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings. 18 We loosed against them a wind clamorous in a day of ill fortune continuous, 19 It swept people away as if they were trunks of uprooted palm trees. 20 Then, how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 21 We have made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would pay attention? 22
