In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O you wrapped in garments (i.e. Prophet Muhammad SAW)! 1 Keep watch all the night except some, 2 half the night, or a little less 3 Or a little more; and recite the Qur'an in slow, measured rhythmic tones. 4 Indeed We shall soon ordain a heavy responsibility upon you. 5 Prayer at night leaves the strongest impression on one's soul and the words spoken are more consistent. 6 Verily, there is for you by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties, 7 Remember the Name of your Lord and dedicate yourself devoutly to Him. 8 (He Alone is) the Lord of the east and the west, La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). So take Him Alone as Wakil (Disposer of your affairs). 9 Bear patiently with what they say, and ignore them politely. 10 And leave them to Me – these wealthy deniers – and give them some respite. 11 for, behold, heavy fetters [await them] with Us, and a blazing fire, 12 And food that will stick in the throat, and painful torment 13 On a Day whereon the earth and the mountains shall quake, and the mountains shall become a sand-heap poured forth. 14 We have sent to you, (O men!) a messenger, to be a witness concerning you, even as We sent a messenger to Pharaoh. 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger, so We seized him with a ruinous seizure. 16 If therefore you disbelieve, how will you guard yourselves against a day that shall make the children grey-headed? 17 Whereon the heaven will be cleft asunder? His Promise is certainly to be accomplished. 18 Verily, this is an admonition, therefore whosoever will, let him take a Path to His Lord! 19
