The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise, and warn, 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 shun uncleanness; 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 And children to be by his side! 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Behold, [when Our messages are conveyed to one who is bent on denying the truth,] he reflects and meditates [as to how to disprove them] 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 Then looked he, 21 frowned and scowled; 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
