He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 And whereas he fears, 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 We send down abundant water, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 to yield therein corn, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
True are the words of God the Almighty.
End of Surah: He Frowned ('Abasa). Sent down in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
