The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read in the name of your Lord Who created. 1 created man out of a germ-cell 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Bountiful One 3 who taught by the pen, 4 Teacheth man that which he knew not. 5 Yes indeed, man is surely rebellious. 6 In that he looketh upon himself as self-sufficient. 7 Verily unto thy Lord is the return. 8 What thinkest thou? He who forbids 9 a worshiper when he prays. 10 Hast thou seen if he relieth on the guidance (of Allah) 11 or orders piety? 12 What do you think? Have you seen if he belies and turns away, 13 Does he, then, not know that God sees [all]? 14 By no means! If he desist not We shall seize and deal him by the forelock 15 his lying sinful forelock. 16 So let him summon his helpmates; 17 We too would summon the braves of the army. 18 Nay, Obey not thou him. But prostrate thyself, and draw near (unto Allah). ۩ 19
