And recount to them the story of Abraham: 69 When he said unto his father and his people: what worship ye? 70 They said, “We worship idols, and we keep squatting in seclusion before them.” 71 He said: "Do they listen to you when ye call (on them)?" 72 or benefit you or do you harm?" 73 They replied: 'No, but we found our fathers doing so' 74 He said: Have you then considered what you have been worshipping: 75 You and your ancient sires. 76 They are enemies to me except the Lord of all the Worlds 77 who has created me and is the One who guides me, 78 and is the One who gives me to eat and to drink, 79 He who cures me when I am ill; 80 And Who causeth me to die, then giveth me life (again), 81 “And the One Who, upon Whom I pin my hopes, will forgive me my mistakes on the Day of Judgement.” 82 "O my Sustainer! Endow me with the ability to judge [between right and wrong,] and make me one with the righteous, 83 and appoint me a tongue of truthfulness among the others. 84 and make me of those who will inherit the Garden of Bliss, 85 And forgive my father. Indeed, he has been of those astray. 86 “And do not disgrace me on the day when everyone will be raised.” 87 The Day whereon will profit neither substance nor sons. 88 and when he alone will be saved who comes to God with a sound heart." 89 And the Garden will be brought nigh for those who ward off (evil). 90 And Hellfire will be brought forth for the deviators, 91 "And it shall be said to them: 'Where are the (gods) ye worshipped- 92 besides God? Can they help you or even help themselves?" 93 Then they will be thrown on their faces into the (Fire), They and the Ghawun (devils, and those who were in error). 94 and the hosts of Iblis - all together. 95 And they will say, and they will be quarrelling in it: 96 “By oath of Allah, we were indeed in open error.” 97 When we made you equal with the Lord of the Worlds. 98 “And none misled us but the guilty.” 99 and we have no intercessors now, 100 “Nor a caring friend.” 101 But if we could but once return, we would be of the believers. 102 Verily in this is a Sign but most of them do not believe. 103 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 104
