And We indeed destroyed townships surrounding you, and brought several signs so that they may desist. 27 But, then, did those [beings] whom they had chosen to worship as deities beside God, hoping that they would bring them nearer [to Him,] help them [in the end]? Nay, they forsook them: for that [alleged divinity] was but an outcome of their self-delusion and all their false imagery. 28 And recall what time We turned towards thee a company of the jinns hearkening unto the Qur'an. So when they came in the presence thereof they said: give ear. Then when it was ended, they turned back to their people as warners. 29 "O our people:" they said: "we have listened to a Book which has come down after Moses, confirming what was (sent down) before it, showing the way to the truth and a path that is straight. 30 O our people! accept the Divine caller and believe in Him, He will forgive you of your faults and protect you from a painful punishment. 31 “And whoever does not listen to Allah’s caller cannot escape in the earth, and he has no supporters against Allah; they are in open error.” 32 Have they not seen that God, who created the heavens and the earth and was not wearied by their creation, has the power to bring the dead back to life? Yes, indeed, He has power over all things. 33 And on the day when the disbelievers are presented upon the fire; it will be said, “Is this not a reality?” They will answer, “By oath of our Lord, surely yes, why not?”; it will be said, “Therefore taste the punishment, the recompense of your disbelief.” 34 (Muhammad), exercise patience as did the steadfast Messengers. Do not try to make them suffer the torment immediately; on the day when they will see the torment with which they were threatened, they will think that they had lived no more than an hour. The message has been delivered. No one else will be destroyed except the evil doing people. 35
