The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra. These are verses of the Scripture and a plain Reading. 1 Perchance the unbelievers will wish that they had surrendered: 2 Let them eat and enjoy life, and let (false) hope beguile them. They will come to know! 3 And We did not destroy any city but that for it was a known decree. 4 no people can forestall their doom, nor can they delay it. 5 They say, "You to whom the Reminder [the Quran] has been sent down, you are surely possessed. 6 Why bringest thou not angels unto us if thou art of the truthtellers! 7 [Yet] We never send down angels otherwise than in accordance with the [demands of] truth; and [were the angels to appear now,] lo! they [who reject this divine writ] would have no further respite! 8 Indeed We have sent down the Qur’an, and indeed We Ourselves surely are its Guardians. (This is one of the miracles of the Qur’an – no one has been able to change even one letter of its text, despite every effort. It has remained in its original form since the 6th Century (A. D) and will remain so forever. Other Holy Books such as the Torah and the Bible have lost their originality.) 9 And certainly We sent (apostles) before you among the nations of yore. 10 But never once an apostle came to them at whom they did not scoff. 11 thus We cause this [habit of mocking] to enter into the hearts of the sinful. 12 they believe not in it, though the wont of the ancients is already gone. 13 and even if We opened to them a door from heaven, and they began ascending through it, 14 They would only say: "Our eyes have been intoxicated: Nay, we have been bewitched by sorcery." 15
