The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 and the mountains crumbled, 5 and become like scattered dust particles, 6 And you become [of] three kinds: 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 Then the foremost, how pre-excellent, 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 In gardens of delight; 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 on lavish couches 15 Reclining face to face. 16 They will be served by immortal boys, 17 with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 Therein they hear no vain or sinful discourse. 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,- 29 In shade long-extended, 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 and abundant fruits, 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 And exalted thrones. 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 loving and of equal age. 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
