The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
36 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Spider (Al-Ankaboot) before The Heifer (Al-Baqarah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
WOE TO THOSE who give short measure, 1 those who demand a full measure from others 2 but when they have to measure or weigh whatever they owe to others, give less than what is due! 3 Do not these think that they shall be raised again 4 (To be raised) for a Great Day? 5 The Day when (all) mankind will stand before the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists)? 6 Nay, but the record of the vile is in Sijjin - 7 Ah! what will convey unto thee what Sijjin is! - 8 A record [indelibly] inscribed! 9 Woe, that Day, to those that deny- 10 Who give the lie to the day of judgment. 11 Which none denieth save each criminal transgressor, 12 Who, when thou readest unto him Our revelations, saith: (Mere) fables of the men of old. 13 By no means! but on their hearts is the stain of the (ill) which they do! 14 Verily, from (the Light of) their Lord, that Day, will they be veiled. 15 and then they shall enter Hell, 16 and who will be told, "This is what you had called a lie". 17 However, the records of the deeds of the virtuous ones will certainly be in Illiyin. 18 And what will explain to thee what 'Illiyun is? 19 The record is a sealed text. 20 The ones nearest to God will bring it to public. 21 Verily the virtuous shall be in Delight, 22 On thrones, they shall gaze; 23 Thou wilt recognise in their faces the beaming brightness of Bliss. 24 They will be served a drink of the finest sealed wine, 25 its seal will be of musk -- for this let the aspirants aspire -- 26 And admixture thereof will be Water of Tasnim: 27 A spring whence those brought near (to Allah) drink. 28 Verily those who have sinned were wont at those who had believed to laugh, 29 and whenever they pass by them, they wink at one another [derisively]; 30 And when they returned to their own people, they would return jesting; 31 And when they saw them, they would say, "Indeed, those are truly lost." 32 But they (disbelievers, sinners) had not been sent as watchers over them (the believers). 33 so today those who believe shall [be able to] laugh at those who denied the truth 34 On thrones, they will look. 35 Surely the disbelievers are rewarded as they did. 36
