۞ And certainly We gave to Ibrahim his rectitude before, and We knew him fully well. 51 Behold! he said to his father and his people, "What are these images, to which ye are (so assiduously) devoted?" 52 They said, "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said, "You were certainly, you and your fathers, in manifest error." 54 They said: hast thou come unto us with the truth, or art thou of those who sport? 55 'No' he answered, 'your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, the Originator of them, and I am among those bearing witness to it. 56 And, by God, I shall assuredly outwit your idols, after you have gone away turning your backs.' 57 So he broke them to pieces, (all) but the biggest of them, that they might turn (and address themselves) to it. 58 They said, "Who has done this to our gods? He must indeed be some man of impiety!" 59 Said some [of them]: "We heard a youth speak of these [gods with scorn]: he is called Abraham." 60 They said, "Then bring him here in the sight of all the people, so that they may act as witnesses." 61 They said, “Did you do this to our Gods, O Ibrahim?” 62 'No' he replied. 'It was their great one amongst them that did it. Ask them, if they are able to speak' 63 Thereupon they turned to their (inner) selves and said (to themselves): "Surely it is you who are the wrong-doers." 64 Then were they confounded with shame: (they said), "Thou knowest full well that these (idols) do not speak!" 65 He said, "Do you, instead of God, worship things that can neither harm nor benefit you?" 66 Fie upon you and upon all that you worship beside Allah. Do you have no sense?" 67 They cried: Burn him and stand by your gods, if ye will be doing. 68 But We said, "Fire! Be cool and a means of safety for Abraham." 69 And they wished to cause him harm, so We made them the greatest of losers. 70 And We rescued him and Lut towards the land which We have blessed for the entire world. 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac, and Jacob as a grandson. Each of them We made righteous. 72 And We made them leaders who guide by Our command, and We sent them the divine revelation to do good deeds and to keep the prayer established and to give charity; and they used to worship Us. 73 And Lot -- to him We gave judgment and knowledge; and we delivered him from the city that had been doing deeds of corruption; they were an evil people, truly ungodly; 74 Thus We admitted him to Our grace. He is surely one of the righteous. 75
