Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou enwrapped in thy robes, 1 Rise to pray in the night except a little, 2 half of it, or reduce it a little; 3 Or a little more; and recite the Quran (aloud) in a slow, (pleasant tone and) style. 4 For We are about to send down to you a message of considerable gravity. 5 Truly the rising by night is most potent for governing (the soul), and most suitable for (framing) the Word (of Prayer and Praise). 6 whereas by day a long chain of doings is thy portion. 7 And remember the Name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with a complete devotion. 8 [He is] the Lord of the East and the West; there is no deity except Him, so take Him as Disposer of [your] affairs. 9 And bear with patience what they utter, and part from them with a fair leave-taking. 10 And leave Me with [the matter of] the deniers, those of ease [in life], and allow them respite a little. 11 With Us are Fetters (to bind them), and a Fire (to burn them), 12 And a Food that chokes, and a Penalty Grievous. 13 On the Day when the earth with all its mountains quake and the mountains become heaps of shifting sand. 14 BEHOLD, [O men,] We have sent unto you an apostle who shall bear witness to the truth before you, even as We sent an apostle unto Pharaoh: 15 But Fir'aun (Pharaoh) disobeyed the Messenger [Musa (Moses)], so We seized him with a severe punishment. 16 Then how can you avoid the punishment, if you disbelieve, on a Day that will make the children grey-headed (i.e. the Day of Resurrection)? 17 And the heaven shall be split therein. His promise indeed must be fulfilled. 18 Surely this is a reminder, then let him, who will take the way to his Lord. 19
