Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ I swear by this city, Makkah - 1 and you are a lodger in this country. 2 and I swear by the parent and his offspring: 3 We have certainly created man into hardship. 4 Does He think that no one will ever have control over him? 5 He says, "I have spent wealth in abundance." 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Did We not make two eyes for him? 8 And a tongue and two lips? 9 And shown him the two ways (good and evil)? 10 But he has not attempted the ascent. 11 And what will explain to thee the path that is steep?- 12 (It is) to free a slave, 13 And to feed in the day of hunger. 14 The orphan near in relationship, 15 Or the poor in distress; 16 the believers who cooperate with others in patience (steadfastness) and kindness. 17 Their place will be on the right hand. 18 And those who disbelieve in Our signs, they are the Companions of the Left Hand; 19 Upon them shall be a Fire that will hem them in. 20
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
