And recite unto them the story of Ibrahim. 69 when he asked his father and his people, "What is that which you worship?" 70 They said, “We worship idols, and we keep squatting in seclusion before them.” 71 Said he: "Do [you really think that] they hear you when you invoke them, 72 Or do they profit you or cause you harm? 73 They said, “In fact we found our forefathers doing likewise.” 74 He said, "Then do you see what you have been worshipping, 75 You and your ancient forefathers? 76 They are all enemies to me; all, except the Lord of the Universe 77 Who created me and showed me the way, 78 "And it is He Who feeds me and gives me to drink. 79 And heals me when I am sick, 80 And who will cause me to die and then bring me to life 81 And Who, I hope, will forgive me my mistakes on the day of judgment. 82 Lord, grant me authority. Join me to the righteous ones. 83 And appoint for me an honourable mention among the posterity 84 And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Pleasure. 85 And forgive my father; verily he is of the erring. 86 Degrade me not upon the day when they are raised up, 87 The Day when there will not benefit [anyone] wealth or children 88 Unless it be he, who shall bring unto Allah a whole heart, 89 Paradise will be brought near those who take heed for themselves and follow the straight path; 90 And the hell shall be made manifest to the erring ones, 91 And it will be said to them, "Where are those you used to worship 92 besides God? Will the idols help you? Can they help themselves?" 93 "Then they will be thrown headlong into the (Fire),- they and those straying in Evil, 94 and the hosts of Iblis, all together. 95 "They will say there in their mutual bickerings: 96 By Allah! we were certainly in manifest error, 97 When We held you (false gods) as equals (in worship) with the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists); 98 And none led us astray except the culprits. 99 "'Now, then, we have none to intercede (for us), 100 And not a devoted friend. 101 Were there for us a return, we would be of the believers. 102 Verily in this is a Sign but most of them do not believe. 103 surely, your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 104
