The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the star when it setteth. 1 Your Companion is neither astray nor being misled. 2 nor speaks he out of caprice. 3 It is naught but revelation that is revealed, 4 something that a very mighty one has imparted to him: 5 very strong; he stood poised, 6 appearing in the horizon's loftiest part, 7 Then the Spectacle became closer, and came down in full view. 8 until he was two bow-lengths away or even closer 9 Thus He revealed unto His bondman whatsoever He revealed. 10 The heart lied not (in seeing) what it saw. 11 Will you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 And indeed he did see the Spectacle again. 13 at the Lote Tree (Sidrat tree) of the ending 14 Close to which is the Garden of Tranquility, 15 When that covered the lote-tree which did cover it! 16 The sight did not shift, nor did it cross the limits. 17 and he certainly saw some of the greatest Signs of His Lord. 18 Have you considered El-Lat and El-'Uzza 19 And another, the third (goddess), Manat? 20 What! unto you the males and unto Him the females? 21 that, lo and behold, is an unfair division! 22 They are not but [mere] names you have named them - you and your forefathers - for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow not except assumption and what [their] souls desire, and there has already come to them from their Lord guidance. 23 Is the human to have whatever he fancies? 24 All that is in the life to come and all that is in this life belongs only to God. 25
