A numerous company from among the first, 39 and a throng of the later folk. 40 As for the People on the Left: how miserable will be the People on the Left! 41 They will live amid the scorching, 42 and the shadows of black smoke 43 Nothing (will there be) to refresh, nor to please: 44 Verily they have been heretofore affluent. 45 and they persisted obstinately in awful sin, 46 and would say: "What! After we have died and become mere dust and bones, shall we, forsooth, be raised from the dead? 47 “And also our forefathers?” 48 Say: "Verily, those of olden times and those of later times 49 shall all be brought together on an appointed Day. 50 Then indeed you, O those astray [who are] deniers, 51 you will indeed have to taste of the tree of deadly fruit, 52 and fill your bellies with it, 53 And drinking on top of it from scalding water 54 and you will drink as the lapping of thirsty camels. 55 This shall be their hospitality on the Day of Doom. 56 We have created you, why do you not then assent? 57 Have you considered the seed you spill? 58 Do ye create it or are We the Creator? 59 It was We who decreed death among you. We will not be surpassed 60 From replacing you with others or raising you in a way you do not know. 61 And indeed, you have already known the first form of creation (i.e. the creation of Adam), why then do you not remember or take heed? 62 Have you thought about what crops you plant? 63 Do you make it grow or is it We who make it grow? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry powder, and ye would be left in wonderment, 65 Lo! we are laden with debt! 66 Nay, but we have been deprived [of our livelihood]!" 67 Behold! the water which ye drink: 68 Is it you who sent it down from the clouds or is it We who have sent it down? 69 Did We will, We would make it bitter; so why are you not thankful? 70 And have you seen the fire that you ignite? 71 Is it you who have produced its tree or is it We who have produced it? 72 We have made it to be a reminder and a benefit for the wayfarers. 73 So glorify the name of your Lord, the Supreme. 74
