The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Star when it plunges, 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he deluded; 2 nor does he speak out of his own desire. 3 It [the Quran] is nothing but revelation sent down to him. 4 He was taught by one Mighty in Power, 5 one endowed with immense wisdom. He came forth and stood poised, 6 While he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] was in the highest part of the horizon, 7 Then he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] approached and came closer, 8 until he was but two bow-lengths away, or even nearer. 9 then revealed to his servant that he revealed. 10 The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: 11 Will ye therefore dispute with him concerning that which he hath seen? 12 He saw Him indeed another time 13 Near Sidrat-ul-Muntaha [lote-tree of the utmost boundary (beyond which none can pass)], 14 near unto the garden of promise. 15 When the tree was covered with a covering, 16 The sight [of the Prophet] did not swerve, nor did it transgress [its limit]. 17 Indeed he saw some of the greatest signs of His Lord. 18 (Among the idols) have you considered allat and al'uzza, 19 and, another, the third manat? 20 Are there sons for you, and daughters for Him? 21 Then that is surely a very unjust distribution! 22 They are nothing but some names that you have coined, you and your forefathers – Allah has not sent any proof for them; they follow only guesses and their own desires; whereas the guidance from their Lord has come to them. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 To Allah belong both the Next World and the present. 25
