He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 And whereas he fears, 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 and dense orchards, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 wife and sons, 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 with darkness overspread: 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
