The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Alif-Lam-Ra. These are the verses of the Book, and a Qur'an luminous. 1 Oft times would those who disbelieve fain that they had been Muslims. 2 Leave them alone; let them eat and enjoy themselves the while the hope [of vain delights] beguiles them: for in time they will come to know [the truth]. 3 Never did We destroy a population that had not a term decreed and assigned beforehand. 4 Every nation can only live for the time appointed for it. 5 And they say: O thou unto whom the admonition hath been sent down! verily thou art possessed. 6 "Why do you not bring angels to us if you are of the truthful ones?" 7 We send not the angels down save with judgment, and then they would not be respited. 8 We have sent down this Exposition, and We will guard it. 9 And certainly We sent (apostles) before you among the nations of yore. 10 and not a single Messenger came to them, but they mocked at him; 11 We place in the hearts of sinners (disbelief). 12 They do not believe in it, and indeed the example of the former people has already passed. 13 If We opened a gate in the heaven and they kept ascending through it, 14 they would still have said: "Surely our eyes have been dazzled; rather, we have been enchanted." 15
