O the One Wrapped in piety! (Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) 1 stand up to pray for much of the night. 2 It may be half the night or a little less than that 3 Or a little more; and recite the Quran (aloud) in a slow, (pleasant tone and) style. 4 Surely We will make to light upon you a weighty Word. 5 surely the first part of the night is heavier in tread, more upright in speech, 6 surely in the day thou hast long business. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with [complete] devotion. 8 The Lord of the East and the West-- there is no god but He-- therefore take Him for a protector. 9 And be patient over what they say and avoid them with gracious avoidance. 10 And let Me alone with the beliers, owners of ease: and respite thou them a little. 11 Verily We shall have fetters with Us, and a roaring furnace, 12 and food that chokes, and grievous suffering 13 On the day the earth and mountains will rock violently, and the mountains turn to a heap of poured-out sand. 14 Surely We have sent unto you a Messenger as a witness over you, even as We sent to Pharaoh a Messenger, 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger; so We seized him with a heavy Punishment. 16 So how will you save yourselves, if you disbelieve, on a day that will turn children old? 17 [the Day] on which the skies shall be rent asunder, [and] His promise [of resurrection] fulfilled? 18 This is indeed a Reminder. Let whosoever will take the Path to his Lord. 19
